Mini Trash Bag Tutorial

Posted by Jared Waters on

Creating a miniature trash can with a functional lid and DIY trash bags is a delightful project that adds authenticity to any miniaturist's collection. Here's a step-by-step guide to crafting your own mini trash setup:

Materials Needed:

-Our 1:12 Scale  Miniature Metal Trash Can

-A Black Trash Bag

-Miniature trash: tiny bits of sand, crumpled paper, or cotton

-Flat iron

-Ruler

-X-Acto blade

-Tweezers

-Small funnel

Steps to Create the Mini Trash Bags:

  1. Cut a Strip:
Cut a long strip across the bottom of your trash bag, aligning your ruler about an inch from the bottom seam.

  2. Trim to Size:
From that long strip, cut sections about 2 inches wide — these will be your individual trash bags.

  3. Seal the Sides:
While your flat iron is hot, clamp down and seal both open sides of the strip to form a pouch.

  4. Flip Inside Out:
Use tweezers to carefully turn the pouch inside out so the seams are hidden for a realistic look.

  5. Fill the Bag:
Using a small funnel, fill each bag with sand or your chosen stuffing.

  6. Seal the Top:
Twist the top of the bag, then clamp the twisted part between the flat iron plates to seal it shut.
